Women-owned businesses, such as those launched by mompreneurs, significantly impact the economy. As a mompreneur and Swabbies CEO, I want to share how necessity is the mother of invention, and mompreneurs are filling in the gaps.
The economic impact of women-owned businesses alone is $3 trillion.1 There are more than 11.6 million women-owned firms, which are responsible for 9 million employees and achieving $1.7 trillion in sales.2 Mom-owned businesses account for approximately 33 of all small businesses in the United States, comprising about 3 million businesses.3 As a mompreneur and CEO of Swabbies Technologies, Inc., I know first-hand how business-minded moms are inventing incredible mom-tested and approved products and services based upon our own experiences.
In my own personal experience, I was a busy mother of three who constantly found myself fumbling with the diaper rash cream tube, all the while trying to keep my wiggling baby steady on the changing table. All I really wanted was to have one hand on my baby while opening the diaper rash cream and to be able to apply it without all of the mess. I searched everywhere for such a product and was left empty-handed. Realizing that there was nothing available for moms to remedy this common problem, my inspiration for Swabbies was born.
I made it my personal mission to create safe, beneficial and effective baby care products that are easier and safer for busy parents and caregivers. I immediately got to work on creating a diaper rash cream with a one-hand applicator. Not only did I achieve my mission with the creation of Swabbies, but I was elated when realized that my innovation is also instrumental in preventing the spread of common Staph strains, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
Swabbies is also a uniquely formulated herbal diaper rash cream made from organic materials such as grapeseed oil, olive oil and tea tree oil, as well as lavender, shea butter and beeswax, and 40 zinc oxide for quick relief.
Mompreneurs like myself truly understand that necessity is the mother of invention, and find inspiration in the problems we face. We also have the desire to bridge that gap, with the hope of improving the lives of future mothers. Together, business-minded moms will continue to have a positive impact on the economy and improve the quality of life for others. I’m so grateful that my innovation of Swabbies will allow future mothers to have a choice that keeps their babies safe while applying a mess-free, natural diaper rash remedy. This type of inspiration and innovative thinking will always give mompreneurs a competitive edge.
